We have raped our
world. Mother Earth is suffering, crying out in anguish … and we should be
ashamed. And by “we,” of course I mean all of us, because it takes collective
awareness to maintain Earth-friendly consumable manufacturing measures and
in-home recycle/reuse/refrain lifestyles.
However, it’s up to our governments—comprised of politicians—to
generate and enforce the INTELLIGENT laws that will help us create and maintain
an ecologically balanced environment.
Supposedly, to establish intelligent laws there must be
intelligent people proposing them. Aha! Therein lies our problem. While I could
point fingers at―“in my opinion”―those who have let us down through corrupt and
completely insane leadership, that won’t solve problems.
What will help our ailing planet? Complete and utter reform.
Perhaps even a revolution. Because we are definitely headed in the wrong
direction. ABOUT FACE! Like, now …
Environmental collapse now a serious threat:
scientists

… On current trends, the 50 percent
mark will be reached by 2025, a point the scientists said is worryingly close
to the tipping point.AFP – 20 hrs ago (06/06/12, approx. 11:20 am/PT)
If that happened, collapse would entail a shocking disruption for the world's food supply, with bread-basket regions curtailed in their ability to grow corn, wheat, rice, fodder and other essential crops.
"It really will be a new world, biologically, at that point," said lead author Anthony Barnosky, a professor of integrative biology at the University of California in Berkeley.
"The data suggests that there will be a reduction in biodiversity and severe impacts on much of what we depend on to sustain our quality of life, including, for example, fisheries, agriculture, forest products and clean water. This could happen within just a few generations."
In the above text, “could” is the key word, according to the
rest of the article. But that we are even headed in that direction is
disturbing. So while the writer stresses “it is not inevitable,” one of the
quoted experts voices his concern.
"In a nutshell, humans have not done anything really important to stave off the worst because the social structures for doing something just aren't there," said Arne Mooers, a professor of biodiversity at Simon Fraser University in Canada's British Columbia.
Unfortunately, we’ve let our politicians have their way with
us … we “ass-umed” they were acting in our best interests all these
decades/centuries. How in heaven’s name did we allow them to create a
government by which they (the politicians who form it) blind us with the
promise of correcting a large issue, only to tack on small, practically
unnoticeable issues—not remotely related to the one close to our hearts—that can
have enormous, often devastating, effects? How did we get here?!
"My colleagues who study climate-induced changes through the Earth's history are more than pretty worried," he said [Mooers] in a press release. "In fact, some are terrified. …" Entire article here.
So am I. I won’t be here, but my children might be, and my
grandchildren, surely. I am terrified for them. How did our scientists,
government, and politicians let us
get to this point? Think about that as the presidential elections near.
